Functional Activity of the Eccrine Sweat Glands in the Toe-pads of the Dog.

چکیده
The functional activity of the eccrine sweat glands in the toe-pads of non anesthetized dogs was investigated. Spontaneous sweating of central origin was found to be considerable in dogs in early months (within 1-3 months) of birth. This sweating was easily blocked by local administration of atropine, but not by dihydroergotamine, indicating a cholinergic nerve supply to the sweat glands. The responsiveness of the glands to local injections of adrenaline, nor -adrenaline, isopropylnoradrenaline, carbaminoylcholine, acetylcholine, mecholyl and pilocarpine was determined with the toe-pads in which the spontaneous sweating had been eliminated by blocking the peripheral nerves with procaine, using the band method. The axon reflex sweating was found to be elicited by local application of nicotine. The occurrence of this response was limited to the toe-pads which had been maintaining the ability to produce a considerable spontaneous sweating. The ability of producing spontaneous sweating and the responsinveness to the sudorific agents of the glands were reduced with advancing age. Further more, the responsiveness to the sudorific agents was found to decrease progres -sively following the denervation of the glands.

An Electron Microscopic Study of Eccrine Sweat Glands of the Cat Foot and Toe Pads—evidence for Ductal Reabsorption in the Human
The eccrine sweat glands of the cat foot and toe pads have been studied by light and electron microscopy before and after stimulation with mecholyl. The ultrastructure of these glands in the cat is found to be entirely comparable to that in the human (13). The ultrastructure and staining properties of the secretory segment of the two species are identical. The ductal part of the feline gland is...
متن کاملF-18 FDG PET/CT Imaging of Eccrine Sweat Gland Carcinoma of the Scrotum with Extensive Regional and Distant Metastases
Eccrine carcinoma is an extremely rare malignant skin cancer arising from eccrine sweat glands with a high metastatic potential. It mainly occurs in the elderly, with equal incidence in both sexes. It usually spreads to regional lymph nodes, with liver, lungs, and bones being the most common sites of distant metastasis. Because of tumor rarity, little is known about the value of F18- FDG PET/CT...
متن کاملUnilateral linear Syringoma: A case report
Syringoma is a benign tumor arising from intra-epidermal ducts of eccrine sweat glands. It usually presents as small translucent papules on eyelids and upper cheeks. The case, which is presented, is a rare from of syringoma that occurred in a linear fashion on the trunk. Dermatologists should be aware of such form of syringoma to differentiate it from other similar lesions. This 23 year-o...
متن کاملApocrine Secretory Adenoma in a 2.5 year Old Male Great Dane Dog
Apocrine glands are the major type of sweat gland in dogs, and distribution of eccrine sweat glands is limited to footpad (Goldschmidt and Shofer, 1992). Apocrine sweat gland tumors are rather common in dogs and tend to occur on the head, neck and limbs. The Golden Retriever is a breed that shows a predisposition to such tumors (Kalaher et al., 1990). The tumor was greatly resembles its human c...
متن کاملA Case Report of Eccrine Hidrocystoma
Background: Hidrocystoma are benign adnexal cystic lesion originating from sweat glands (eccrine or apocrine) which are often observed in the head and neck. Periocular hidrocystomas are relatively uncommon which can occur as single or multiple lesions. There is no gender or race predisposition for the prevalence of hydrocystoma. Spontaneous resolution is rare, especially in large cysts, and def...
